Power outage strikes New Orleans’ central business district
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Thousands of electricity customers in and around New Orleans’ central business district were without power Wednesday morning.
Outages affected traffic lights at rush hour and left high-rise office buildings without power.
The utility company Entergy New Orleans said about 9,800 customers were without power as of 10 a.m.
Entergy spokesman Lee Sabatini says in an email that a preliminary investigation indicates an animal caused the damage that led to the outage. He gave no details.
“We have crews onsite and a team is working to isolate the problem so we can begin field switching affected customers while we make repairs,” Sabatini said.
There was no immediate word on when power would be fully restored.
